First General Assembly in Munich

This week, the FlexGeo Project General Assembly took place at the Chair of Energy Systems (Lehrstuhl für Energiesysteme) at the Technical University of Munich. The event marked three very active and productive days, which included engaging discussions, collaborative workshops, and some enjoyable joint evening activities, such as a visit to a local Christmas market.

The meeting featured several key highlights that showcased the project’s progress and fostered collaboration among the partners. A pivotal moment was the site visit to an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) module, presented by our industrial partner, Orcan Energy. Andreas Schuster and Dominik Geymann provided an in-depth, hands-on demonstration of the module, offering valuable insights into its operation.

Another highlight was a lab tour focusing on TUM’s reversible high-temperature heat pump / ORC test rig. Jannik von Zabienski guided attendees through the facilities, providing a detailed presentation on the test rig’s operations and its role in advancing the project’s goals.

The assembly also featured an interactive internal workshop on the FlexGeo modelling framework, organised by Morteza Esmaeilpour (ETH) and Nirav Patel (TUW). The session allowed participants to exchange ideas and deepen their understanding of the modelling tools crucial to the project’s success.
Additionally, Jordi García Céspedes, Ignasi Herms, and Guillem Piris Casasnovas delivered a comprehensive presentation on the 5GDHC use-case site in Vielha, Catalonia, giving the team an in-depth look at the site’s potential and how it will contribute to the project’s objectives.

Overall, the General Assembly provided a fantastic opportunity to strengthen partnerships, discuss future steps, and celebrate the progress made over the past six months. The team left Munich motivated and excited for the next phase of the FlexGeo project.
